Gin Ichimaru is a former captain of the 3rd Division of the Gotei 13, a military organization of Soul Reapers, until he betrays them and joins forces with the villainous Sōsuke Aizen.
Gin Ichimaru's Personality
Gin Ichimaru’s personality is characterized by his constant smirk, his narrow eyes, and his sarcastic tone. He is cunning, deceptive, and ruthless, often playing with his enemies and allies alike. He is also secretive, mysterious, and unpredictable, rarely revealing his true motives or feelings.
Gin was born and raised in the Rukongai, the slums of the Soul Society, where he had to survive by stealing and killing. He met Rangiku Matsumoto, a young girl who became his only friend and love interest, when he saved her from starvation. He witnessed Aizen’s experiment on Rangiku, which involved taking a part of her soul, and swore to avenge her by killing Aizen.
Gin enrolled in the Shin’ō Academy, a school for aspiring Soul Reapers, where he quickly rose to the top of his class. He became the lieutenant of the 5th Division under Aizen, and later the captain of the 3rd Division. He also befriended Izuru Kira, his future lieutenant, and Kaname Tōsen, another captain who would join Aizen’s rebellion.
Gin followed Aizen for over a century, pretending to be his loyal subordinate, while secretly plotting his downfall. He learned everything he could about Aizen’s power, his plans, and his weakness. He also manipulated and betrayed many people along the way, such as Rukia Kuchiki, Ichigo Kurosaki, and the other Soul Reapers.
Gin finally revealed his true intentions when he stabbed Aizen with his Zanpakutō, a sword that can extend and contract at high speed. He explained that he had been waiting for the right moment to activate his Bankai, a powerful form of his Zanpakutō, which can turn into dust and poison its target. He believed that he had killed Aizen and freed Rangiku from his influence.
However, Gin’s plan failed, as Aizen survived his attack and fatally wounded him. Gin died in Rangiku’s arms, confessing his love for her and apologizing for his actions. He also expressed his admiration for Ichigo, who had managed to surpass Aizen and defeat him. He died with a smile on his face, finally at peace.
