Hinata Shoyo is a first-year student at Karasuno High School and a middle blocker for the boys’ volleyball team. His dream is to become a player like the “Little Giant”, a legendary Karasuno alumnus who was renowned for his skills despite his short stature.
Hinata Shoyo's Personality
Hinata is a very energetic, optimistic, and passionate person. He loves volleyball more than anything and is always eager to play and improve his skills. He is not afraid to challenge stronger opponents and is determined to overcome any obstacle in his way. He is also very loyal and supportive of his teammates, often cheering them on and motivating them with his enthusiasm.
Hinata’s interest in volleyball was sparked when he watched a video of the Little Giant playing in the national tournament on TV. He was amazed by how the Little Giant could jump so high and spike so powerfully, despite being shorter than most of the other players. Hinata decided to follow his footsteps and join the volleyball club at his middle school, Yukigaoka Junior High. However, he faced many difficulties, as his school had no volleyball team and he had to recruit members from other clubs. He also had no coach or proper training, and had to practice by himself using a wall and a broom handle.
Hinata’s first and only official match in middle school was against Kitagawa Daiichi, a powerhouse school with a genius setter named Kageyama Tobio. Hinata and his makeshift team were easily defeated, but Hinata managed to score one point with a quick spike that surprised everyone. Hinata vowed to defeat Kageyama and prove himself as a volleyball player. He enrolled in Karasuno High School, hoping to join the same team as the Little Giant. However, he was shocked to find out that Kageyama was also there, and they had to work together as teammates.
Hinata and Kageyama initially had a rocky relationship, as they often argued and competed with each other. They also had contrasting personalities and playing styles: Hinata was impulsive and reckless, while Kageyama was calm and precise. However, they soon realized that they had a lot in common, such as their love for volleyball, their desire to win, and their admiration for the Little Giant. They also discovered that they could perform a unique attack, where Hinata would spike the ball at the exact moment that Kageyama would toss it, without looking at each other. This attack, dubbed the “freak quick”, became their signature move and gave them an edge over their opponents.
Hinata’s growth as a volleyball player was not smooth, as he had to face many challenges and setbacks. He had to deal with his lack of height, which made him vulnerable to taller blockers. He had to learn how to receive, block, serve, and spike properly, as he had no formal training before. He had to cope with his fear of losing, which sometimes made him lose his confidence and composure. He also had to adapt to different situations and opponents, as he encountered various types of players and strategies.
Hinata’s greatest strength was his incredible jumping ability, which allowed him to reach heights that most players could not. He also had a remarkable speed, agility, and reflexes, which enabled him to move around the court and react to the ball quickly. He also had a keen sense of the game, as he could read the flow of the play and anticipate the movements of his teammates and opponents. He also had a strong will and spirit, as he never gave up and always tried his best.
Hinata’s goal was to become a complete player, who could do anything on the court. He wanted to be more than just a decoy, who would draw the attention of the blockers and create openings for his teammates. He wanted to be an ace, who could score points and lead his team to victory. He wanted to be like the Little Giant, who inspired him to play volleyball in the first place.
