Kaidou Shun is a high school student who suffers from chuunibyou syndrome, a condition where he believes that he has superpowers and that he is being pursued by an evil organization called The Dark Reunion. Kaidou Shun is a delusional, paranoid, and self-proclaimed hero. He thinks that he has a special power called the Black Beat, which resides in his right arm and is controlled by red bandages. He also believes that he is a former assassin who betrayed The Dark Reunion, a mysterious group that wants to take over the world. He often makes up stories and names for himself and others, such as The Jet-Black Wings, Alphonse Calcifer Raiden, and The Dark Reunion’s leader, Anpu. He is obsessed with his fantasies and tries to act cool and confident, but he is actually very cowardly and insecure in reality.
Kaidou’s chuunibyou syndrome started when he was a first-year student at PK Academy. He met a second-year student named Mineo Nobuaki, who also had chuunibyou and helped him create his alter-ego, The Jet-Black Wings. However, Mineo grew out of his chuunibyou stage and left Kaidou behind, making him feel lonely and betrayed. Kaidou continued to live in his delusions, hoping to find a sense of belonging and identity. He also developed a crush on Teruhashi Kokomi, a popular girl who is admired by everyone, but he is too shy to confess his feelings.
Kaidou’s personality often causes him to get into trouble or embarrass himself.
