Raphtalia is the first real companion of the Shield Hero, Naofumi Iwatani, who bought her as a slave when she was a young and sickly child. She later becomes his sword and his most trusted ally, as well as the Katana Hero of another world.
Raphtalia's Personality
Raphtalia is a loyal, brave, kind-hearted, and optimistic tanuki girl who has a strong sense of justice and compassion. She is devoted to Naofumi, whom she sees as her savior and hero, and will do anything to protect him and support him in his quest. She is also friendly and caring towards her friends and allies, and respectful and polite towards others. She is not afraid to speak her mind and stand up for what she believes in, even if it means going against the majority or the authority. She is also very mature and responsible, often acting as the voice of reason and the mediator for Naofumi and his other companions.
Raphtalia was born in a peaceful village of demi-humans, where she lived happily with her parents and friends. She was a cheerful and curious child who loved to explore the world and learn new things. She had a close bond with her father, who taught her how to use a sword and encouraged her to follow her dreams. She also had a fondness for balloons, which symbolized her freedom and happiness.
However, her life changed drastically when the first Wave of Calamity struck her village, destroying everything and killing everyone she loved. She was the only survivor, and was captured by slave traders who sold her to a cruel nobleman. There, she was tortured and abused, and lost all hope and will to live. She became a frail and timid slave, who only wished for death to end her suffering.
Her fate changed again when she was bought by Naofumi, the Shield Hero, who was also an outcast and a victim of betrayal. Naofumi treated her kindly, fed her, healed her, and gave her a new purpose as his sword. He also gave her a slave crest, which bound her to him and prevented her from lying or disobeying him. At first, Raphtalia was scared and distrustful of Naofumi, but gradually, she began to trust him and see him as her hero. She also regained her courage and strength, and started to grow physically and mentally as she leveled up with Naofumi. She became his loyal and brave companion, who fought by his side and comforted him in his darkest moments.
Raphtalia’s personality and growth were tested by many challenges and hardships, such as facing her past trauma, confronting her former tormentors, losing her friends and allies, and traveling to another world. Through these experiences, Raphtalia learned to overcome her fears, forgive her enemies, cherish her bonds, and embrace her destiny. She also developed feelings for Naofumi, and confessed her love to him. She became his most important person, and vowed to stay with him forever.
