Thors is the father of the main protagonist, Thorfinn, and a former commander of the Jomsvikings, a group of elite Viking mercenaries. He is known as “Thors the Troll” for his immense strength and skill in battle, but he also values peace and life above all else.

Thors's Personality

Thors is a calm, wise, and compassionate man who has a deep understanding of the true nature of war and violence. He is not afraid of death, but he does not seek it either. He believes that a true warrior does not need a sword, and that the only way to end the cycle of hatred is to love one’s enemies.
Thors was born in Iceland, where he lived a simple and happy life with his family. He was a natural-born fighter, who enjoyed hunting and wrestling with his friends. He had a strong sense of justice and honor, and he always stood up for the weak and oppressed.
When he was 15 years old, he was recruited by the Jomsvikings, who offered him fame and fortune as a warrior. He accepted their offer, hoping to make a better life for his family. He quickly rose through the ranks, becoming one of the most feared and respected commanders in the Jomsviking army. He fought in many battles and wars, earning the nickname “Thors the Troll” for his unmatched prowess and courage.
However, as he witnessed the horrors and atrocities of war, he gradually became disillusioned and disgusted with the Jomsviking way of life. He realized that war was not glorious or noble, but a senseless and cruel waste of human lives. He also learned that the Jomsvikings were not loyal or honorable, but greedy and ruthless, who would betray and kill anyone for their own gain.
One day, he decided to abandon the Jomsvikings and fake his own death, in order to escape from the bloodshed and return to his family. He settled in a remote village in Greenland, where he married Helga and had two children, Ylva and Thorfinn. He lived a peaceful and contented life as a farmer and a father, teaching his children the values of kindness and compassion. He also taught them how to fight, but only for self-defense and survival, not for revenge or glory.
Thors was a loving and caring father, who always supported and protected his children. He was especially close with his son, Thorfinn, who inherited his father’s passion and talent for fighting. He wanted Thorfinn to grow up to be a good and happy person, who would not be corrupted by the violence and hatred of the world. He often told him stories about Vinland, a land of peace and freedom, where they could someday live together.
Thors was also a respected and admired leader, who had the trust and loyalty of his fellow villagers. He was always ready to help and guide them, especially the young men who looked up to him as a role model. He was not arrogant or boastful, but humble and modest. He did not seek fame or power, but only peace and harmony. He was not greedy or selfish, but generous and selfless. He was not violent or aggressive, but gentle and pacifist.
Thors’ peaceful life was shattered when he was summoned by the Jomsvikings to join their war against England. He knew that it was a trap, but he agreed to go, hoping to spare his village from their wrath. He also hoped to use this opportunity to teach his son a lesson about the futility and misery of war. He took Thorfinn and a few of his men with him, leaving behind his wife and daughter.
On their way to England, they were ambushed by Askeladd, a cunning and ruthless pirate who was hired by Floki, a Jomsviking commander who wanted to kill Thors for his betrayal. Thors fought bravely and single-handedly defeated Askeladd and his men, but he was shot by a hidden archer. He did not resist or retaliate, but accepted his fate with dignity and grace. He died in his son’s arms, telling him to be a true warrior and to never forget his name. His death sparked Thorfinn’s quest for revenge, which became the main driving force of the story.
