Kamishiro Rize is a ghoul and the foster daughter of Matasaka Kamishiro, a powerful ghoul leader. She is also the illegitimate daughter of Tsuneyoshi Washuu, the former chairman of the CCG, a human organization that hunts down ghouls.
Kamishiro Rize is a voracious, independent, narcissistic, and sadistic ghoul who acts as a femme fatale to those who fall victim to her charms. She enjoys killing and eating humans, and does not care about the consequences or the rules of the ghoul society. She is also manipulative and cunning, using her beauty and intelligence to lure unsuspecting prey and escape from dangerous situations.
Rize was born into the Washuu Clan, a powerful and influential family of ghouls that secretly controls the CCG. She was raised in the Sunlit Garden, a facility where the Washuu Clan breeds and trains special children to become elite agents or potential mates. Rize was one of these children, and she inherited the powerful Rinkaku kagune, a type of ghoul weapon, from her father.
Rize hated her life in the Sunlit Garden, and she despised the Washuu Clan for their hypocrisy and tyranny. She also felt suffocated by the strict rules and expectations imposed on her by her family and the organization V, a secret society that supports the Washuu Clan. She longed for freedom and excitement, and she rebelled against her fate by escaping from the Sunlit Garden and killing several members of V.
Rize wandered around Tokyo, moving from one ward to another, and devouring humans as she pleased. She did not form any lasting bonds with other ghouls, and she often betrayed or abandoned them if they became a hindrance or a threat to her. She also did not respect the authority or the territory of any ghoul leader, and she provoked them by killing their subordinates or their food sources.
Rize met Ken Kaneki, a human college student, at a bookstore, and she pretended to be interested in him and his books. She asked him out on a date, and then attempted to kill and eat him in an alley1. However, before she could finish him off, she was crushed by a falling steel beam in a freak accident1. She was taken to a hospital, where her organs were harvested and transplanted into Kaneki, who was severely injured by her attack.
Rize survived the accident, but she was captured by Dr. Akihiro Kanou, a mad scientist who experimented on ghouls and humans. She was kept in a tank, where her kakuhou, the organ that produces the kagune, was repeatedly removed and used to create artificial one-eyed ghouls, such as the Yasuhisa twins and Souta Washuu-Furuta1. She suffered immensely from the pain and the loss of her freedom, and she became a shadow of her former self.
Rize appeared in Kaneki’s hallucinations, where she acted as a manifestation of his ghoul side and his inner turmoil. She taunted him, tempted him, and challenged him to embrace his hunger and his power. She also revealed some of her past and her views on the world to him, and she sometimes helped him or comforted him in her own twisted way.
Rize was eventually freed from Kanou’s lab by Furuta, who was her half-brother and the leader of V. Furuta used her as the host for the body of Dragon, a massive kagune that spread across Tokyo and turned humans into ghouls. Rize was trapped inside Dragon, where she was constantly tormented by her hunger and her memories. She was finally killed by Kaneki, who entered Dragon to save her and end her suffering.
