Kallen Kozuki is a half-Britannian and half-Japanese girl who leads a resistance group against the Britannian Empire and becomes the head of the Order of the Black Knights, a group led by Zero. She is also a student at Ashford Academy, where she uses the name Kallen Stadtfeld and pretends to be a frail and meek girl to hide her true identity.

Kallen Kozuki's Personality

Kallen is a strong-willed, determined, loyal, and brave individual who can also be quite short-tempered, forceful, and somewhat impulsive. She has a strong sense of justice and a deep hatred for Britannia, which stems from her personal experiences and her brother’s death. She is willing to risk her life for the sake of the Japanese people and the freedom of the world.
Kallen’s personality is influenced by her mixed heritage and her family situation. She was born to a Japanese mother and a Britannian father, who never married and treated her as an illegitimate child. She lived in the ghettos of Japan with her mother and brother, Naoto, who was the leader of a resistance cell. She admired her brother and followed his footsteps in fighting against Britannia. She also developed a close bond with her mother, who was kind and supportive of her.
Kallen’s life changed when her father, who came from a prestigious Britannian family, acknowledged her as his heir and took her to live with him and his wife. She was given the name Kallen Stadtfeld and enrolled in Ashford Academy, a school for the elite. However, she felt alienated and disgusted by the Britannian society and culture, which she saw as oppressive and hypocritical. She refused to accept her Britannian side and continued to use her Japanese name and fight for the resistance. She also despised her father and stepmother, who were indifferent and abusive to her and her biological mother, who worked as a maid in their house.
Kallen’s personality was further shaped by her encounter with Lelouch, the mysterious leader of the Black Knights who called himself Zero. She was initially skeptical and distrustful of him, but she gradually became loyal and devoted to him after witnessing his charisma and intelligence. She was impressed by his strategic and tactical skills, his ideals and goals, and his willingness to sacrifice himself for the greater good. She also developed romantic feelings for him, which she tried to hide or deny. She saw him as her hero and her hope, and she was ready to follow him to the end.
Kallen’s personality also evolved throughout the series, as she faced various challenges and dilemmas. She became more mature, confident, and independent, as well as more compassionate, understanding, and forgiving. She learned to question her own beliefs and actions, as well as those of Zero and the Black Knights. She also learned to appreciate her friends and allies, such as C.C., Nunnally, and Suzaku, who helped her in different ways. She also learned to cope with her losses and regrets, such as the death of her brother, the betrayal of Zero, and the disappearance of Lelouch.

Relationships

  • Lelouch: Kallen’s leader, partner, and love interest. She admired his intelligence, charisma, and courage, and was loyal to his cause. She also developed romantic feelings for him, but was unsure if he felt the same way. She was conflicted by his actions and secrets, and sometimes questioned his methods and motives. She supported him until the end, and kissed him before his death. She later learned that he sacrificed himself to create a peaceful world, and decided to live on in his memory.
  • Naoto: Kallen’s older brother and former leader of her resistance group. She loved him dearly and looked up to him. He was killed by Britannian forces, which motivated Kallen to continue fighting. She inherited his Knightmare, the Guren, and his ideals.
  • C.C.: Kallen’s ally and rival. She was a mysterious immortal woman who gave Lelouch his power and stayed by his side. Kallen was initially wary of her, and felt jealous of her closeness to Lelouch. She also competed with her in piloting skills and in chess games. She later learned to respect and trust her, and to appreciate her friendship. She also understood her loneliness and pain, and helped her to find her true wish.
  • Nunnally: Kallen’s friend and enemy. She was Lelouch’s younger sister and the reason for his rebellion. Kallen befriended her at Ashford Academy, and was touched by her kindness and innocence. She was unaware of her true identity, and was shocked to learn that she was the new governor of Area 11 and the enemy of the Black Knights. She tried to rescue her from Lelouch, who had kidnapped her and planned to use her as a hostage. She later realized that Nunnally was also Lelouch’s accomplice in his final plan, and respected her choice.
  • Gino: Kallen’s enemy and admirer. He was a Britannian noble and a Knight of the Round, an elite group of Knightmare pilots. He fought against Kallen several times, and was impressed by her skills and spirit. He developed a crush on her, and tried to flirt with her and persuade her to join his side. He also helped her to escape from prison, and offered to protect her. Kallen rejected his advances, and remained loyal to Lelouch. She also acknowledged him as a worthy opponent and a good person.
