Muzan Kibutsuji is the main antagonist of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. He is the Demon King, the first of his kind, and the progenitor of all other demons in existence. He has been around for over a millennium, not once seeing the light of day. He is also the leader of the Twelve Kizuki, a group of the twelve most powerful demons working directly under him.
Muzan Kibutsuji's Personality
Muzan Kibutsuji is a ruthless, cruel, and arrogant demon who has no regard for human life. He is obsessed with becoming an absolutely perfect and immortal being, and will stop at nothing to achieve his goal. He is extremely paranoid of anyone who poses a threat to him, especially the Demon Slayer Corps and the Ubuyashiki Family, who have been hunting him for centuries. He is also fearful of the sun, which is the only thing that can kill him permanently.
Muzan was once a human who suffered from a terminal illness that made his blood coagulate and his skin rot. He was desperate to find a cure, and sought the help of a doctor who experimented on him with a mysterious medicine made from the Blue Spider Lily. The medicine turned him into a demon, granting him incredible strength, speed, regeneration, and longevity, but also making him vulnerable to sunlight and hunger for human flesh. Muzan killed the doctor and his family, and began his quest to find more of the Blue Spider Lily and overcome his weakness to the sun.
Muzan soon realized that he could create more demons by injecting his blood into humans. He also discovered that he could manipulate his body in various ways, such as changing his appearance, growing extra limbs, or splitting into multiple clones. He used these abilities to blend into human society and evade his pursuers. He also created the Twelve Kizuki, a hierarchy of powerful demons who serve him and carry out his orders. He gave them a portion of his blood, which enhanced their abilities and allowed him to communicate with them telepathically. However, he also made sure that they could never betray him, as he could destroy them instantly by overloading their blood with his own.
Muzan's long life has made him bored and cynical of the world. He views humans as inferior and disposable, and enjoys toying with them and killing them for his amusement. He also has no loyalty or affection for his fellow demons, and sees them as mere tools or experiments. He often discards or kills them if they fail him, disappoint him, or annoy him. He is especially intolerant of any sign of weakness, cowardice, or disobedience among his subordinates. He is also very secretive and distrustful, and rarely reveals his true intentions or plans to anyone.
Muzan's ultimate goal is to become the perfect being who can survive in the sun and live forever. He believes that he can achieve this by either finding the Blue Spider Lily, which he thinks is the source of his demonic power, or by creating a demon who can withstand the sun and devouring them. He has spent centuries searching for the flower, but has never found it. He has also tried to create a sun-resistant demon by experimenting on different humans and giving them varying amounts of his blood, but none of them have succeeded. He is particularly interested in Nezuko Kamado, a demon who has shown the ability to resist the sun, and Tanjiro Kamado, a human who possesses a rare and powerful sword technique that can harm him.
Relationships
Nezuko Kamado: Muzan's target and Tanjiro's sister. Nezuko is a demon who resists the sun and retains her humanity. Muzan wants to devour her, as he thinks she holds the secret to his goal. He also tries to manipulate her, but she resists. Nezuko becomes human again, after being injected with a cure made from Muzan's blood.
Ubuyashiki Family: Muzan's nemesis and the leaders of the Demon Slayer Corps. The Ubuyashiki Family are the descendants of the doctor who turned Muzan into a demon, and share a blood connection with him. They have been hunting him for centuries, and know his true identity and weakness. The last head of the family sacrifices himself to weaken Muzan and expose him to the Demon Slayers.
Twelve Kizuki: Muzan's subordinates and the main antagonists of the story. The Twelve Kizuki are the twelve strongest demons under Muzan's command, who are given a portion of his blood and a number on their eyes. They are loyal and fearful of Muzan, but he does not care for them, and often kills or replaces them. All of the Twelve Kizuki are killed by the Demon Slayers, except for Akaza, who ends his own life.
