Dabi is a major antagonist in the manga and anime series My Hero Academia. He is affiliated with the League of Villains and the leader of the organization’s Vanguard Action Squad. He is also the eldest son of the Pro Hero Endeavor, who abused and neglected him as a child. Dabi’s real name is Toya Todoroki, and he is the brother of Shoto Todoroki, one of the main protagonists of the series.

Dabi's Personality

Dabi is a ruthless, sadistic, and nihilistic villain who enjoys inflicting pain and suffering on others. He is driven by a deep hatred for his father and the hero society that he represents. He is also arrogant, confident, and sarcastic, often mocking and taunting his enemies. He is loyal to the League of Villains and their leader, Tomura Shigaraki, whom he sees as a true successor of All For One, the ultimate enemy of All Might, the Symbol of Peace.

Dabi’s personality was shaped by his traumatic childhood, where he was subjected to harsh training and abuse by his father, who wanted to create a perfect successor with a powerful fire Quirk. Dabi inherited his father’s Quirk, but his body was unable to handle the intense heat, resulting in severe burns and scars all over his skin. He was also neglected by his mother, who suffered from mental breakdowns due to Endeavor’s violence. Dabi felt isolated and unloved by his family, and developed a resentment towards his father and his younger brother, Shoto, who was favored by Endeavor for having both fire and ice Quirks.

Dabi ran away from home when he was a teenager, and presumably faked his own death by setting himself on fire. He changed his name to Dabi, which means “cremation” in Japanese, and joined the League of Villains, a group of criminals who oppose the hero society and its rules. He became the leader of the Vanguard Action Squad, a team of elite villains who specialize in stealth and assassination. He participated in several attacks on the heroes and the students of U.A. High School, where his brother Shoto studies. He also killed several Pro Heroes, including Snatch, a sand hero who tried to stop him from kidnapping Overhaul, the leader of the Shie Hassaikai, a yakuza group that the League of Villains defeated.

Dabi’s ultimate goal is to expose and destroy his father’s reputation as the new Number One Hero, after All Might’s retirement. He believes that Endeavor is a hypocrite and a monster who does not deserve to be a hero. He also wants to make his father suffer by hurting his family and friends. He revealed his true identity to the public during the Paranormal Liberation War, a massive battle between the heroes and the villains, where he also confronted his father and his brother. He mocked and insulted them, and tried to kill them with his flames. He also revealed that he was the one who hired a villain named Hawks to infiltrate the League of Villains, and that he manipulated him into killing Twice, one of his comrades, and then killed him himself.

Dabi is a tragic character who represents the dark side of the hero society. He is a product of Endeavor’s ambition and cruelty, and a victim of his own Quirk. He is a twisted and broken person who has lost his sense of humanity and compassion. He is a firebrand who wants to burn everything to ashes, and a vengeful son who wants to make his father pay for his sins.

Relationships

Endeavor: Dabi’s father and archenemy. Dabi hates Endeavor with a passion, and blames him for ruining his life and his family. He wants to expose and destroy Endeavor’s image as a hero, and make him suffer as much as possible. He does not care about Endeavor’s attempts to redeem himself and become a better father and hero. He considers Endeavor to be his worst mistake, and wishes that he never existed.
Shoto Todoroki: Dabi’s youngest brother and rival. Dabi resents Shoto for being the favored son of Endeavor, and for having a balanced Quirk that he lacks. He also sees Shoto as a symbol of Endeavor’s legacy, and wants to erase him from the world. He does not acknowledge Shoto as his brother, and calls him by his full name. He tries to kill Shoto whenever they meet, and does not hesitate to hurt him physically and emotionally.
Fuyumi Todoroki: Dabi’s younger sister and former family member. Dabi does not seem to have any strong feelings towards Fuyumi, and does not interact with her much. He does not care about her well-being, and does not mind endangering her life. He also does not respect her wishes to reunite the family, and considers her to be naive and foolish.
Natsuo Todoroki: Dabi’s younger brother and former family member. Dabi does not seem to have any strong feelings towards Natsuo, and does not interact with him much. He does not care about his well-being, and does not mind endangering his life. He also does not respect his opinions, and considers him to be weak and pathetic.
Rei Todoroki: Dabi’s mother and former family member. Dabi does not seem to have any strong feelings towards Rei, and does not interact with her much. He does not care about her well-being, and does not mind endangering her life. He also does not appreciate her love, and considers her to be useless and helpless.
