Tomura Shigaraki, formerly known as Tenko Shimura, is the main antagonist of the anime and manga series My Hero Academia. He is the leader of the League of Villains, a group of criminals who oppose the hero society and seek to destroy it. He is also the successor of All For One, the most powerful and evil villain in history, who raised him as his adoptive son and gave him his Quirk. His goal is to kill All Might, the Symbol of Peace, and create a new world order in his own image.

Tomura Shigaraki's Personality

Tomura Shigaraki is a ruthless, sadistic, and nihilistic villain who enjoys causing chaos and destruction. He is impulsive, reckless, childish, arrogant, and unstable. He has a strong hatred for the hero society and everything that it represents, especially All Might, whom he blames for his tragic past. He believes that the current world is rotten and unfair, and that the only way to change it is to destroy it completely. He does not care about the lives of others, and will kill anyone who stands in his way or annoys him. He is also very cruel and manipulative, often using his allies as pawns or disposable tools for his own benefit.

Tomura’s personality is largely shaped by his traumatic childhood and his upbringing by All For One. He was born as Tenko Shimura, the grandson of Nana Shimura, a former holder of the One For All Quirk and a mentor of All Might. However, he never knew about his grandmother’s legacy, as his father, Kotaro Shimura, hated heroes and forbade him from admiring them. Kotaro was abusive and strict with Tenko, often punishing him for his innocent curiosity and dreams of becoming a hero. Tenko’s mother and grandparents were kind and supportive of him, but they were too afraid to confront Kotaro or protect Tenko from his wrath.

When Tenko was five years old, his Quirk, Decay, manifested for the first time, causing him to accidentally kill his entire family and his dog, Mon. He was left alone and traumatized, wandering the streets and begging for help, but no one came to his aid. He was eventually found by All For One, who took him in and gave him a new name, Tomura Shigaraki, meaning “one who mourns the dead”. All For One manipulated Tomura into believing that he was his savior and father figure, and that the hero society was responsible for his misery. He also encouraged Tomura to embrace his Quirk and his destructive impulses, and to pursue his own desires without any regard for morality or consequences.

Tomura grew up under All For One’s influence, developing a twisted worldview and a warped sense of self. He became obsessed with destroying everything that he hated, especially All Might, who was the symbol of the hero society and the successor of his grandmother. He also inherited All For One’s Quirk, which allowed him to steal and use other Quirks, making him even more powerful and dangerous. He formed the League of Villains, a group of misfits and outcasts who shared his hatred for the hero society, and became their leader. However, he did not truly care about them or their goals, and only saw them as means to an end. He was also very dependent on All For One, who was the only person he trusted and respected.

However, as the story progresses, Tomura undergoes some changes in his personality and goals. He begins to develop a genuine bond with some of his allies, especially Dabi, Toga, and Twice, who show him loyalty and friendship. He also starts to question All For One’s motives and intentions, and to seek his own identity and purpose. He realizes that he does not want to simply destroy the world, but to create a new one that reflects his own ideals and values. He also becomes more confident and independent, and decides to surpass All For One and become his own person. He merges his organization with the Meta Liberation Army, a group of radicals who advocate for the liberation of Quirks, and becomes the Grand Commander of the Paranormal Liberation Front, a massive army of villains. He also inherits the All For One Quirk, but resists his master’s attempt to take over his body and soul, and declares himself as Izuku Midoriya’s archenemy.

Relationships

All For One: All For One is Tomura’s adoptive father and master, who raised him and gave him his Quirk. Tomura has a complex relationship with him, as he respects and admires him, but also resents and distrusts him. He follows his orders and plans, but also seeks to surpass him and become his own person. He is conflicted between his loyalty and his independence, and ultimately rejects his master’s control and asserts his own will.
All Might: All Might is Tomura’s nemesis and the Symbol of Peace, who represents everything that he hates. Tomura blames him for his tragic past and wants to kill him and destroy his legacy. He sees him as the embodiment of the hero society and its flaws, and as the obstacle to his new world order. He is obsessed with defeating him and proving him wrong, and does not care about his true identity or his connection to his grandmother.
Izuku Midoriya: Izuku Midoriya is Tomura’s archenemy and the current holder of the One For All Quirk, which is the opposite of his All For One Quirk. Tomura sees him as his rival and the successor of All Might, and wants to take his Quirk and his life. He is intrigued and annoyed by his determination and ideals, and considers him as the only person who can challenge him and understand him. He is determined to make him his final opponent and to crush his dreams and hopes.
Dabi: Dabi is Tomura’s ally and the leader of the Vanguard Action Squad, a special unit of the League of Villains. Tomura trusts him and values his skills and loyalty, and often assigns him important missions and tasks. He considers him as his right-hand man and his friend, and supports his personal agenda of exposing Endeavor’s past. He is unaware of his true identity as Toya Todoroki, the eldest son of Endeavor and the brother of Shoto Todoroki, one of Izuku’s friends and classmates.
Himiko Toga: Himiko Toga is Tomura’s ally and a member of the Vanguard Action Squad, who has a Quirk that allows her to transform into anyone whose blood she consumes. Tomura tolerates her and finds her useful and loyal, but also annoying and creepy. He does not understand her obsession with blood and her twisted love for Izuku and Ochaco Uraraka, one of Izuku’s friends and classmates. He sometimes scolds her or ignores her, but also protects her and listens to her.
