Aki Hayakawa is a Public Safety Devil Hunter who works with the series’ protagonist, Denji, and has contracts with the Curse Devil and Future Devil, and a former contract with the Fox Devil.
Aki Hayakawa's Personality
Aki is a stoic, serious, and mature man who acts professionally and sometimes bluntly as a devil hunter. He has a strong sense of justice and duty, and is willing to risk his life to protect the innocent and his friends. He also has a soft and compassionate side, as he cares deeply for his younger brother, Taiyo, and his teammates, Denji and Power. He hates to see people suffer, especially at the hands of devils, and often tries to comfort and support those who are in pain.
Aki's personality was shaped by his tragic past, as he witnessed his parents and brother being killed by the Gun Devil when he was a child. He developed a deep hatred and fear of devils, and vowed to avenge his family by killing the Gun Devil. He joined the Public Safety Devil Hunters, hoping to find a way to fulfill his goal. He made contracts with various devils, sacrificing parts of his body and lifespan in exchange for their powers. He also became more detached and cynical, believing that he had no future and that his life was meaningless.
However, Aki's personality gradually changed after he met Denji, a hybrid of a human and the Chainsaw Devil, and Power, a fiend of the Blood Devil. He initially disliked and distrusted them, seeing them as potential threats and nuisances. He also looked down on Denji for his lack of seriousness and education, and often beat him up or scolded him for his mistakes. He tried to keep his distance from them, but he eventually grew fond of them and accepted them as his friends and family. He learned to appreciate the simple joys of life, such as eating, sleeping, and playing games. He also became more open and expressive, smiling and laughing more often. He even developed romantic feelings for Himeno, another devil hunter who was his partner and mentor.
Aki's personality was also influenced by his contracts with the devils, especially the Future Devil. The Future Devil showed him visions of his future, which were always bleak and gruesome. Aki became obsessed with finding out the truth behind his fate, and often consulted the Future Devil for guidance. He also became more reckless and desperate, taking on dangerous missions and enemies without hesitation. He believed that he had nothing to lose, and that his death was inevitable. He also developed a fatalistic and nihilistic outlook, thinking that his life was predetermined and that he had no free will.
Aki's personality reached its climax when he faced the Gun Devil, the source of his trauma and revenge. He was determined to kill the Gun Devil, even if it meant sacrificing himself and his friends. He fought bravely and fiercely, using all of his powers and skills. However, he was ultimately overpowered and killed by the Gun Devil, who then possessed his body and turned him into the Gun Fiend. Aki lost his personality and memories, becoming a mindless and violent monster who attacked anyone in his sight. He was eventually killed by Denji, who fulfilled his last wish to be happy.
