Makima is a high-ranking devil hunter who works for the Public Safety organization and takes in the protagonist Denji as her human pet. She is later revealed to be the Control Devil, who embodies the fear of control or conquest, and a member of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

Makima's Personality

Makima is a manipulative, charismatic, seductive, authoritative, and ruthless woman who seeks to dominate everything and everyone around her. She is calm, confident, and professional on the surface, but hides a twisted and sadistic nature underneath. She uses her powers and influence to control and exploit others for her own benefit, often discarding them when they are no longer useful or loyal to her.

Makima was born as the Control Devil, one of the four strongest devils in existence, along with her sisters War, Death, and Hunger. She was feared by humans, fiends, and devils alike, which increased her powers as a devil. However, she also felt lonely and bored, as she had no equal or challenge in the world. She desired to create a world where she could stand equal with others, and where she could experience love and happiness.

Makima became obsessed with the Chainsaw Devil, also known as Pochita, who was the only devil that could kill other devils permanently. She believed that he was the key to creating her ideal world, and that he was the only one who could understand and love her. She devised a plan to revive him by using Denji, a human boy who had a contract with Pochita, as a vessel. She took Denji under her wing and pretended to care for him, while secretly manipulating him to awaken Pochita within him.

Makima also used her powers and connections to orchestrate various events and conflicts in the world, such as the Gun Devil’s attack, the assassination of the president of the United States, and the invasion of Hell. She eliminated anyone who opposed or threatened her, such as the Angel Devil, Reze, Quanxi, and Santa Claus. She also sacrificed many of her subordinates and allies, such as Aki Hayakawa, Power, and Kishibe, to further her goals. She showed no remorse or empathy for her actions, and justified them as necessary evils for the greater good.

Makima eventually succeeded in reviving the Chainsaw Devil, but her plan backfired when he turned against her and killed her. She was reincarnated as a human girl named Nayuta, who was adopted by Denji. She lost her memories and powers as the Control Devil, and became a cheerful and innocent child. However, she still retained some of her personality traits, such as her love for dogs, her fondness for Denji, and her desire to control him.

Relationships

Pochita/Chainsaw Devil: Makima’s obsession and love interest. She admired his power and uniqueness, and wanted to use him to create a better world. She also wanted to be loved and understood by him, and to fuse with him to become one. However, he rejected her and killed her, as he saw her as a threat to his friends and freedom.
Denji: Makima’s human pet and vessel. She manipulated him into becoming her loyal servant, and gave him false promises of happiness and affection. She also tried to break his spirit and erase his bond with Pochita, by killing his friends and revealing his dark past. However, she underestimated his resilience and willpower, and failed to control him completely.
Aki Hayakawa: Makima’s subordinate and pawn. She respected his skills and dedication as a devil hunter, and used him as a mentor and protector for Denji. She also exploited his feelings for her, and made him a contract with the Future Devil, which shortened his lifespan. She eventually turned him into a weapon against Denji, by making him the host of the Gun Devil.
Power: Makima’s subordinate and victim. She tolerated her antics and incompetence as a devil hunter, and used her as a friend and partner for Denji. She also exploited her loyalty and affection for Denji, and made her betray him by threatening to kill her cat. She later killed her in front of Denji, to provoke him and awaken Pochita.
Kishibe: Makima’s former mentor and enemy. She learned from him the skills and knowledge of a devil hunter, and respected him as a teacher and a father figure. She also betrayed him and tried to kill him, when he opposed her plans and sided with Denji. She failed to do so, as he survived and rescued Denji from her.
