Kobeni Higashiyama is a former Public Safety Devil Hunter who worked under Makima's Special Squad and later the Tokyo Special Division 4. She resigned from being a Devil Hunter after the battle against the Darkness Devil in Hell.

Kobeni Higashiyama's Personality

Kobeni is exceptionally cowardly, timid, paranoid, and prone to panic. She is also resilient, loyal, and compassionate at times.

Kobeni was born as the ninth daughter of a large and poor family. She had eight older sisters and one younger brother. She grew up in a cramped and noisy environment, where she had to share everything with her siblings and had little privacy or personal space. She developed a low self-esteem and a fear of being left out or abandoned.

Kobeni decided to become a Devil Hunter to earn money and support her family. She also hoped to find a sense of purpose and belonging in her life. She was assigned to Makima's special squad, where she met Aki, Himeno, Denji, Power, and Hirokazu. She was initially nervous and insecure about working with them, but she gradually formed bonds of friendship and trust with them.

Kobeni's first major mission was to track down a Devil in the Morino Hotel. There, she faced the Eternity Devil, a powerful and terrifying entity that trapped them in a distorted space and fed on their fear. Kobeni was paralyzed with fright and tried to escape by any means possible, even if it meant betraying or harming her comrades. She stabbed Aki with a knife and accused Hirokazu of being a spy for the Devils. She regretted her actions and felt guilty for hurting her friends, but she was too scared to face the consequences.

Kobeni survived the hotel incident thanks to Denji, who defeated the Eternity Devil by offering his heart. She was transferred to the Tokyo Special Division 4, where she met Kishibe, Quanxi, and the other international assassins. She was involved in the chaotic battle against the Gun Devil and the Control Devil, where she witnessed the deaths of many of her colleagues and friends. She was also dragged into Hell by the Darkness Devil, who slaughtered and mutilated countless Devils and Devil Hunters. Kobeni was one of the few survivors who managed to return to Earth, but she was traumatized and scarred by the experience.

Kobeni decided to quit being a Devil Hunter and live a normal life. She got a job as a waitress at a family burger restaurant, where she met Reze, a former enemy who had lost her memories. She befriended Reze and helped her adjust to her new life. She also kept in touch with Denji and Power, who were the only members of Makima's squad who were still alive. She tried to forget her past and move on, but she was still haunted by nightmares and flashbacks of the horrors she had seen.

Relationships

Aki Hayakawa: A senior Devil Hunter who was Kobeni's mentor and leader. Kobeni respected and admired Aki for his calm and professional demeanor. She felt bad for stabbing him in the hotel and apologized to him later. She was saddened by his death at the hands of the Gun Devil.
Himeno: A senior Devil Hunter who was Kobeni's mentor and friend. Himeno was kind and supportive to Kobeni, and often hugged her and cheered her up. Kobeni looked up to Himeno as a role model and a big sister. She was devastated by her death at the hands of the Katana Man.
Denji: A hybrid Devil Hunter who was Kobeni's comrade and friend. Kobeni was initially afraid of Denji because of his Chainsaw Devil form, but she later grew to trust and care for him. She was grateful to him for saving her from the Eternity Devil and the Darkness Devil. She often visited him and brought him food and gifts.
Power: A fiend Devil Hunter who was Kobeni's comrade and friend. Kobeni disliked Power at first because of her rude and selfish behavior, and blamed her for their predicament in the hotel. She later realized that Power was not a bad person and became friends with her. She enjoyed hanging out with her and Denji, and sometimes teased her for her antics.
